Solar Energy Laboratory of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CHSEL) was established
in late 2001, and attached to Institute of Engineering Thermophysics. With the
help of several research assistants over the years, CHSEL directed by
Dr. Zhifeng Wang, has undertaken a wide range of research projects, published
articles extensively and is represented on several national and international
committees.

CHSEL has been belonged to Institute of Electrical Engineering from 2005.
Furthermore, there are other two organizations under CHSEL, which are Solar
Energy Utilization Research Laboratory with Himin Solar Group and Research
Center of Solar Integrated Technology on Building with China National
Engineering Research Center for Human Settlements.

In the fields of solar thermal application and renewable energy, specialist
skills are available in various areas.CHSEL focus on: developing the efficient
use of energy (including transport sector); supporting new and innovative
energy technologies;promoting the sustainable policies in the energy and
transport field;providing a focal point for local collaboration with
international organizations; disseminating the results of successful energy
projects. As a institute in the field of clean energy engineering science,
it's strategic task is to R&D new renewable energy utilization technology,
find a solution to environmental pollution and energy conservation associated
with conventional energy use, and to develop energy regeneration technology
for environmental pollution abatement process.

The purpose of the laboratory is to further the development application of
solar energy and relative technology. And the whole staff of the laboratory
dedicate to advancing the use of solar energy for the benefit of the global
environment. Great importance is attached to international co-operation and
academic exchange, so that good relationship has been established with other
countries and areas. Since its foundation, the institute has gained more than
100 items of research accomplishment and about 70 of them were granted prizes
of provincial or ministerial level, more than 80 were granted national patents.
Many of the accomplishments have been transferred into production force,
yielding appreciable economic and social benefits.
